8-9th Century Visigothic Script/commentary on the Apocalypse (Ms. 644)/
rel. Visigothic Music:
I've supplied a link to the 8-9th Century illuminated manuscript of the
commentary to the 'Apocalypse' of the monk Beatus de Liebana of
Asturias, Spain. A document responsible for popularizing and making
receptive the subject of the return of Christ and impending judgment
coming upon the first millennium, (the subject of the Canto de la
Sibila). It is written in the Visigothic script and is illuminated. Note
the 'interlacing' on the main page (fol. 239), it is an element employed
widely in most 'germanic' migration art.
* Some of the Visigothic chapels in Asturias are 'painted' with the same
types of elements found in this work.
Cheers,
F.X.
