Fifteenth Gothic-Roman War 395-397 AD

Continuing my series on Gothic Roman Wars
I am this time turning to an attack on Corinth,
Argos and Sparta by the Goths. Stilicho
marches to the aid of Greece and in 396 AD
appears with a roman army in the Peloponnes.
He managed to corner the Gothic army at
Elis. But Alarich breaks out and escaped
towards Epirus. In 397 AD Alarich is appointed
Magister militum per Illyricum. Now Alarich
would be able to, covertly using Roman
arsenals to prepare for the final battle for the
control of the West Roman empire. In the beginning
of the 5th century large Germanic armies under
Gothic leadership will finally topple the Roman
empire.
