Turkish runes were descended from the middle-Persian alphabet called Pahlawi.
Te only thing in common between them and Germanic runes is that they have no
curves and no horizontal lines. This comes from scratching writing lengthways
on split pieces of wood: curves are difficult, and horizontal lines get lost
in the grain of the split wood. Get hold of a sharp 6-inch nail and some split
pieces of soft wood and try scratching writing into them in Hebrew or Japanese
kana or whatever :: after a while it will get to look quite like runes.
