[gothic-l] Proto-Nordic

Hello,
I had read a theory a few years back that the Germanic languages may not
be Indo-European in origin but rather a lingua franca used to communicate
with the Indo-Europeans, eventually developing into its own language.

Has anybody else come across this theory?

I would like to read it again, but can't remember the name or who it was
written by.
