Beowulf's father Ecgtheow is called A noble leader prince of his people. So
perhaps was the elder brother and inherited the throne before Ecgtheow, who
was killed in battle. Ecgtheow would have been next in the line of
succession. The hero of the story might have been based on Beowulf King of
the Danes. There has been a discussion on the list before that Geat, Gaut,
and Gota are words which are all related mean Goth.
