Wolfgang Hartung (?) wrote in a history of early Bavaria and Suevia
(cannot remember the title) that there are a number of Gothic words
perserved in modern Bavarian (Upper German). The author spoke of some
200 (?) clearly gothic/east Germanic words in Bavarian, which
otherwise is a west Germanic language. The examples that I remember
included:

Bavarian: Pfinzdag, Gothic: Pintadags; Engl.: Thursday; Germ.:
Donnerstag

Bavarian: Ergedag, Gothic: Argansdags; Engl.: Tuesday; Germ.: Dienstag

Bavarian: Maut, Gothic: Mota; Engl.: Toll/tariff; Germ.: Maut

Does anybody have more examples or the complete list of Gothic loan
words into Bavarian?

thanks
Dirk
