Here are some remarks to:

Omeljan Pritsak, The Origin of Rus'. Volume 1 Old Scandinavian
Sources
other than the Sagas. Harvard Ucrainian Research Institute
Monograph
Series. Harvard 1981

Omeljan Pritsak is a famous historian and orientalist specialized in
Central Asian and Altaic studies and Russian and Ucrainian history.
This book was planned to be the first in a series of six volumes, of
which however only this one was finished by the author. He is not a
scandinavist or a specialist in Gothic history or language and does
not claim to be one. Of the 926 pages of this book only some
chapters
treat the Goths in passing and there he cites literature which was old
when the book appeared (Ludwig Schmidt and Thompson). About
thirty
pages are devoted to the Battle of the Goths and the Huns, only
incidentally he identifies pp.249 f. Gothheimar as "the home of the
Goths", but Gothic questions are not central to the main theme of the
book and Pritsak generally treats them mostly to identify geographic
settings for his history of the Rus. Kind regards
             Andreas Schwarcz
