Dear Keth,
Manitius, Curtius, and Klaus von See are standard literature
histories and excellent for your purpose. I know the forewords of the
MGH editions usually are in Latin, because classical philologists
were (and still are) expected to be able to read and write it fluently.
But the texts themseloves are in Latin and to work with them you
should have a good command of Latin. They cannot be used as
quarries for single words or names you pick up from the register.
