Tenth Gothic War 321-322 AD

The Gothic Taifali leave their place of abode and plunder
on Roman territory. Emperor Constantinus I with his
son Constantinus II swiftly arrive and defeat Rausimuth,
who is killed. Constantinus declares the long peace for
broken. Gothic King Araric moves into Pannonia and
Moesia. As usually the numbers in the sources are very
high (of 100,000 Goths 50,000 are killed on the battle-
fields). The final victor seems to be Araric. The tribute paid
to him by Rome is doubled at the peace treaty.
The Goths in the Roman army are allowed in the future
to fight in their own units under their own Gothic commanders.
In the coming years the Goths in an extended way learn
Roman strategy and tactics which will in the end prove
fatal for the empire. Rome has so to say trained their
own future masters.
