Third Gothic War 248-249 AD

After the latest peace accord with Rome ended King Ostrogota
anew crossed the Danube with his armies. The legions retreated
everywhere and Rome sent the battlehardened C.M. Decius
to take care of imperial border defense. Decius got rid of all
Germanic soldiers in the army. Those forced to leave joined
the armies of King Ostrogota. He moved with 300,000 men (Goths,
Taifali, Vandali, Carpi and Bastarnae) and attempted to storm
Marcianopel. Decius had to retreat. Ostrogota stood in front
of Byzantium when he had to return to deal with a Visigothic
(Kniva) and a Gepidic (Fastida) uprising.

King Ostrogota battles the revolting Kniva and Fastida during 249 AD.
He falls in battle and the new Gothic elected King is Kniva, who
at once continued the war against Rome.
