The technical term is a creole. It has been argued that Yiddish is
such, and it is a very tennible position. But if it is true, then it is
a creole of Slavic and High German. I could repost my comparison of
Yiddish, Gothic, and German and throw in every Germanic language I
could find information on, and the conclusion would still be
inescapable. The similarities between Yiddish and High German are
unmistakeable.
While the different branches of the Goths almost certainly had
their own dialects, and while these dialects must have diverged more
and more as time went by and the different Goths grew more and more
far-flung, and while we could very easily speculate that Gothis in some
regions strongly assimilated their language to surrounding Western (or
Northern?) Germanic languages, I still have yet to see any attempt to
show that Yiddish is more like Gothic, than say German, Dutch,
English, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Saxon, Faroese, Afrikaans,
Flemish, Pensylvania Dutch, Cape York Creole, or any other Germanic
language is. Yiddish phonology is not particularly conservative, so
frankly it would be easier to argue that, say, Dutch was Gothic.
Look, you can believe whatever you want, but you have to admit
your theory is pure speculation. I have seen nothing in your arguments
even close to convincing evidence, let alone proof.
