Hi Francisc,
I found the above information that you supplied very interesting. In
combination with the quotes from the Conversio Bagaoriorum et
Carantanorum (871AD) which stated that the Bavarian missionaries
were in contact with Gepids in Pannonia(...De Gepidis autem quidam
adhuc ibi resident), this seems to indicate that some East Germanic
ethnic groups may have been more resilient than one would have
expected. Unfortunately, the chronicle does not seem to state which
language those Gepids were speaking. However, with language being the
main ethnically defining characteristic and given your information,
one may assume that they were still speaking Gepidic/Gothic.
