Hailai allai,
I want to congratulate Matt, Iosef, and Albareiks on their compositions
during the past month. A great pity about Gothic is that so little has
survived, and so it is a delight to see modern "Goths" provide a taste of
what the loss of manuscripts may have denied us.
One small quibble, or perhaps it should be called a quiblet, since it is
minor:
In Attila's Dirge,
Hvas nu þata dauþus wisan ufkunnai...
and in Attila's Death Song,
thata dauthus hvas nu, kindinis waila kunthis, ufkunnai wisan...
"dauþus" should probably be "dauþu", since the construction is accusative and
infinitve. Compare, e.g.:
Luke 20:6,
...triggwaba galaubjand auk allai Iohannen praufetu wisan.
"for all believe assuredly that John was a prophet."
Luke 20:41,
....hwaiwa qiþand Xristu sunu Daweidis wisan?
"how can they say that the Christ is David's son?"
