Tore,
this process of La Teneisation affected most of northern Europe, with
declining intensity from south to north. It contributed to the
development of certain cultures like Jastorf, Przeworsk, Oksywie, but
it does not mean that there was a common culure embracing all of the
Baltic Sea area in say 200BC or 100BC. In fact, the distinctions
between the Pommeranian culture and the Przeworsk culture become very
marked over time. The same is true for the Przeworsk and
Oksywie/Wielbark culture. When outside graves do appear, like in the
case of the stone-circle graves from Scandinavia at the end of the
1st century, they are so alien to the local Wielbark culture that
they are easily marked out as 'foreign'.
Bierbrauer and Godlowski noted that the Wielbark culture and the
Przeworsk culture, respectively, were extremely conservative. That
means the Wielbark culture continued its characteristic traits which
emerged around 0 AD for several centuries (around 400AD) and the
Przeworsk features were maintained for over 600 years.
