Since 1999 I have been trying to collect
information on the statues of Visigothic
Kings outside the Royal Palace in Madrid.
Have exchanged letters with the Patrimonio
Nacional, Area de Conservacion, and
have received the following information
on these statues. It should be noted that
there are other statues of Visigothic kings
in other areas of Spain:
"Fachada Este:
Alarico (sobre el pedestal de Leovigildo). Autor: Antonio Dumandré.
Teodoredo (sobre le pdesral de Witerico). Autor: Juan Domingo Olivieri.
Ervigio (sobre el pedestal de Luiba II). Autor: Pablo Martinez.
Reciario (sobre el pedestal de Garci Fernández). Autor: José López.
Fachada Oeste
Rey godo sin indentificar (sobre el pedestal de Reciario).
Teodomiro (Teudis). Autor: Roberto Michel."
These statues seem to have been made between 1750 to 1760.
The statues were moved to their original places close
to the Royal Palace. It seems that the Visigothic tradition was
still alive in the 18th century.
