Keth,

As I pointed out in the first of the contributions
on the etymology of the Eruli all twelve presen-
tations are based on Taylor's 1990 article.

Would recommend you, if you are interested,
to read the articles by de Vries I am going to present
in the next bibliographical selection.

Taylor's article is an overview of etymological writing.
As there are a great number words that could
be connected to ther people Eruli, the mention
of that name is not necessary using material
in the article.

I have not seen de Vries books. If his choice
is to write Heruls insted of Eruli, that does not
prevent Taylor to use his books and articles
when making the only existing etymological
study in the 1990s of the views presented by
various scholar throughout the the 20th century.

Erulically

Bertil

May the Heruls brighten your waves, Bertil !

What my original comment concerned was when you wrote:

I pointed out that "jormuni" (hooked-o) does not mean "ox"
or "horse", but that it is merely a poetic kenning for such,
and that it is in this form that it is listed in the Icelandic
sources - which you are no doubt quoting, albeit indirectly,
since you let it go through both Taylor and de Vries first.

Well I have de Vries' books (1957, 1962), and he mentions no Heruls at
all in connection with these words. In fact, de Vries himself writes
Heruls with H, and so it is kind of incredible how you can quote
de Vries as source for Heruls without H.
