More about Matt's reconstructin of part of Nehemiah:

I think Matt's "gamuneis" is right for (subjunctive) remember. I had 
"corrected" it (i.e. incorrected it).

As for a word meaning a gap, I can suggest a few possible sources:

dal (neut.) = hole

gatwo (fem) = street, but is possibly related to O. Icelandic "gat" = gap 
(Lehmann).

groba (fem) = hole, presumably related to "graban", to dig, and so less 
suitable.

þairko (neut) = hole (in "þairko neþlos" = eye of a needle), which is a 
derivative of þairh = through, and so perhaps could be used as it stands. On 
the other hand the Greek words that "þairko" was used to translate (trema and 
trymalia) do not, according to Liddell and Scott's Lexicon, appear to have a 
meaning appropriate to the sense of "gap".
