Professor, dr.phil. Hans Frede Nielsen, _Guldhornsindskriften fra Gallehus -
Runer, sprog og politik_, Odense: University Press of Southern Denmark,
2002
__________________________________________________________
This valuable book by Professor Nielsen spreads light on the development
of the Gothic language. The author has in _Den Store Danske Encyclopaedi_
Vol. 7, more in detail explained the development of Germanic language.
It starts with Gothic splitting into Older North West Germanic and the
Early Runic Language, and later comes the West Germanic.
The present book is developed from lectures by Professor Nielsen
at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense. The Gallehus runic
inscription is in the Older Fiuthark (around 200 - 700 AD). The reason
for the publication of this work is the just passed 200th anniversary of the
stealing of the Gallehus horns in Denmark.
Of interest is also Professor Nielsen's _The Early Runic Language
of Scandinavia. Studies in Germanic Dialect Geography_ (2000).
