My private opinion based on comparison
of some Gothic words with Old Russian
cognates is that:
ai might be pronounced rather like ä/æ
(example: Airils - Yarilo)
and iu was pronounced rather like ü/
(example: þiuda - Tchüd).<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
But I have to stress that my statement
is contrary to the common knowledge that
the Gothic language had no umlauts !!!
