The Slavic cognate of Gothic hlaifs/hlaiba- "bread" is hleb "bread" 
(in fact it seems that the Slavic word was borrowd from Gothic).
The feminine counterpart of "lord" < hlaford "loaf-ward" (= "loaf 
keeper") is "lady" < hlaf-dige "loaf kneader". In this case, the 
meaning "head" wouldn't make sense.
