[gothic-l] Gothi Fire Signals?

Hi all,

Does anyone know of any reference to gothic fire signals? Ammianus
talks of a signal 'peculiar to their race' to gather the disparate
groups together but this is usually assumed to be the 'doleful
trumpets (triste soantibus classicus - sp?)' he speaks of earlier.
However, Gibbon says they were fire signals but doesn't say where he
got this from.

Does any one know of any instances of Goths (or other barbians in the
4th C AD) sending messages by fire signal? Refs would be greatly
appreciated.
