Gothic compared to other Germanic languages

I must say that learning german has been helpful when I tried to learn 
gothic so I would guess it's the same the other way too.
Eventhough gothic has e.g. 24 difinite articles (all not different) 
when german has only 16, it helped to learn about cases and genders etc.
