I'm not convinced by site-survey for even relative population
estimates. So I'm not convinced that Baltic populations fell at the
end of the 2nd/beginning of the 3rd century C.E.
I think we can agree that (1) there was very rapid migration at the
end of the 2nd/beginning of the 3rd century C.E. [especially the 1st
1/3 of the 3rd] (2) there was probably some Germanic migration before
that, and substantial Gothic/Gothicized migration after that.
I think we still disagree over group sizes during the migration, and
how far the Goths transplanted old political groupings from the
Baltic, continued old political groupings from the Sarmatian/Alanic
groups, and how much the created new ones, respectively.
Koine Greek and Gothic political institutions aren't the same, so
their political vocabulary shouldn't line up. Wulfila faced several
problems, including 1:1 translation. He could line up the Gothic
words with the Greek originals according to scale, according to
nature, or some combination. I doubt Wulfila would describe Jesus as
a raider-king... which suggests nih thiudans nih frauja generally
mean war-leaders.
