Lithuanian kunas, Lettish kunis, kuna "body" come from PIE *ku- "to
cover", "to coat". Germanic words of the same stock which have gone
through the 1st Sound Shift are ON ha: "skin" (< PG *xawô); with
diverse suffixes ON hu:ð, OE hy:d "hide", OHG hu:t "Haut" et al.;
OHG hodo "Hode"; Go., ON, OE, OHG hu:s "house", and a number of
other formations. Outside the Germanic languages, there are Greek
SKYTOS (with s-mobile) "skin", "leather", Lat. cutis "skin",
Prussian keuto etc. Ergo, the Lithuanian word kunas has nothing to
do with Go. kuni.
