Þata was leitila waihts,
liþau unswinþa.
...
Balþs Balambair
miþ seinaim brandam qam;
That genitive, Balambairis, must have crept in from an earlier
version. Still contemplating Walhamers; I'm sticking with this for
now as it just sounds fiercer!
...
anþarans ana airþai
arans nu distaurun,
others now eagles upon the earth did rend
...
Drugkana afar drauhtin
ni warþ þamma daga strawohun.
No wake was drunk that day for a lord.
(Cf. ON drekka erfi eptir + acc. Gothic 'afar' behaves very much like
ON 'eptir', dat. for space; acc. for time).
...
Lausana ik gasahv þar falkan
fiþro ana anza.
I'm straining the limits of permissible unstressed syllables there;
that might need more thought. Also still bearing in mind
"...afmarzeis / ana markai..." and "lang mel galiþan". Re. which,
note 'faur jera fidwortaihun' "14 years ago" (2Cor 12:2) -- accusative
in Gothic, as against dative in Icelandic (cf. fyr löngu liðit
(Háttalykill)) and German.
