46th Annual Conference, International Linguistic Association
March 30- April 1, 2001, New York University, New York, NY
The 46th ILA conference will have the major theme "Languages of the
Americas: Native and Non-Native." While papers on that theme are
especially solicited, abstracts on any subject in theoretical and applied
linguistics will be welcomed. Invited speakers will include Ofelia Garcia
(Long Island Univ.), Marianne Mithun (U. of California, Santa Barbara) and
David Payne (SIL International). Local host: Prof. John Costello
(john.costello at nyu.edu). Conference Secretary: Johanna Woltjer
(ilaconf.woltjer at gte.net). Program Chair: Ruth Brend (rbrend at umich.edu).
Single-spaced, anonymous abstracts, not more than 425 words, should clearly
state the problems addressed, or research questions, and some indication
of results or conclusions. Send via e-mail to the Conference Secretary.
Simultaneously, send to the Secretary, via airmail 2 hard, camera-ready
copies, plus a 3x5 card bearing name, title of paper, addresses,
affiliation, audio-visual equipment needed. Submissions on diskettes will
not be accepted. Time allotted will be 20 minutes for delivery of the
paper plus 5 minutes discussion.
It is anticipated that there will be a special issue of WORD, containing a
number of the most outstanding presentations, scheduled to appear late 2001
or early 2002. Instructions for submission to that volume will be
available for authors of accepted abstracts at a later time.
Those wishing to propose panels, or special sessions, etc., should contact
the program chair. Abstract deadline is January 12, 2001.
The ILA-WORD website (www.ilaword.org) will provide continuously updated
information on conference arrangements, housing, program etc.
Send abstract via e-mail, preferably as an attachment, (to:
ilaconf.woltjer at gte.net) plus 2 hard copies and 3 x 5 card via airmail to
