CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, LONG BEACH.  The Department of Asian and
Asian
American Studies invites applications for a full-time lectureship in
Chinese for a three-year appointment. Ph.D. or Ed.D. in a field related
to
Chinese Language Studies/Education at the time of appointment and
potential
for effective teaching and scholarship. Candidates must have native or
near
native language competency in Chinese, as well as substantial knowledge
and
appreciation of Chinese culture.  Applicants should have the ability to
communicate and work effectively with an ethnically and culturally
diverse
campus community. Desired qualifications include expertise in the field
of
second language acquisition or other related fields.  Candidates with
training, experience, or interest in heritage language teaching and
learning will be given preference.  Also preferred are candidates who
have
expertise in instructional technology or in writing grant proposals with
a
record of receiving grants. The selection process will commence on March
19, 2001, and continues until the position is filled.  Send a letter of
