Do You Know a Hmong Woman Leader?
The St. Paul, Minnesota-based Women's Association of Hmong and Lao seeks
nominations for the Hmong Women's Leadership Awards. The deadline for
nominations is March 30, 2001, and the award banquet will be in August.
The Hmong Women?s Action Team (WAT) is currently taking
nominations for two Hmong women who will be featured on
posters for the year 2001. The posters will be used to
increase the visibility of Hmong women leaders in our
community. WAT prevents violence against Hmong women and girls by
working to end sexism in our community. Nominees must be at least 16
years of age.
One Hmong woman will be chosen for each of the following two categories.
1.The Hmong Women?s Leadership Award: will be given to a Hmong woman who
has demonstrated general leadership with regard to Hmong women and girls
in the community.
2.The Courage to Make a Difference Award: will be given to a Hmong
woman who has taken a public stand in challenging systems and
structures to advance and promote the status of Hmong women.
Questions about the awards can be directed to May Hang at (612) 676-3609
or Bo Thao at (651) 276-7324.
