A new book series, Research in Second Language Learning, is scheduled to
begin in 2002 designed to meet the need for an additional outlet for the
field of second language learning research that has grown rapidly in
recent
years. The series will promote a research-based approach to the
decision-making process in second language teaching/learning and
articles
from all methodological approaches to research are welcomed.
The editor invites the submission of manuscripts contributing to
scholarly
knowledge about second language learning and teaching. The first
volume's
theme will be "literacy and the second language learner" in which
literacy
is defined broadly across reading, writing, and technology. Future
volumes
will cover a wide range of second language learning research topics such
as: language proficiency evaluation, student and teacher performance
standards, needs of heritage learners, the role of online technologies,
cooperative language learning, among others. Submissions using
quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods are encouraged and may
include
empirical investigations, reviews of research or theoretical analyses,
for
example.
The deadline for submissions is April 19, 2001 for the first volume.
The
style manual followed is that of the APA (4th edition, 1994) and the
manuscript length sought is 20-25 pages.
The series is intended to appeal to academic researchers, to university
instructors looking for thought-provoking reference material for
classroom
use with graduate or undergraduate students and to educators who are
interested in research-based analyses to inform their teaching
practices.
