ACTFL 2002 AAUSC PAPER SESSION
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Abstracts of papers related to the theme of Advanced Foreign Language
Learning are being solicited for the AAUSC paper session, to be held at
the 2002 ACTFL conference in Salt Lake City.

Topics that might be addressed include:

* curricular issues at the advanced level;
* the challenge of fostering the existing capacities of heritage
speakers;
* the quality of study abroad programs, and their relationship to campus
programs;
* the increasingly frequent shift back-and-forth between instructed and
naturalistic foreign language learning, e.g., through internships,
engagement with diverse communities that use the language, the world of
work;
* a program assuring that its graduates can handle the sophisticated
language use that characterizes academic work in graduate departments;
* a reconsideration of what is involved in language acquisition in
academic settings, as contrasted with proprietary and professional
settings.

Format for the session will be three twenty-minute presentations, to be
followed by questions and discussion. Presenters are encouraged to
submit a final version of their work for possible publication in the
