FYI: Article on HLA 2 in EDUCATION WEEK

With thanks to Donna for the tip (and the following summary, slightly
revised)...
 
The 30 October EDUCATION WEEK  has a half page "Reporter's Notebook" by
Mary Ann Zehr about our conference, titled "Support for 'Heritage
Languages' Encouraged at Conference". It's a good piece. She quotes
Maria Brau, Diana Scalera, Christine Sims, James Sundust, and Leanne
Hinton (who also has her picture included!). Zehr makes 2 main
points-one about government need for language proficiency and one about
indigenous language preservation. 
 
You can access the article at http://www.edweek.org/ -- click on the
picture in the upper left hand corner (with the caption "This Week") and
scroll about halfway down the table of contents to the second "Editor's
Notebook" link.
