NAAPAE to Hold 26th Annual Conference in Philadelphia
May 20 - 22, 2004
Loews Philadelphia Hotel
NAAPAE, National Association of Asian and Pacific American Education will
hold its 26th Annual Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from
May 20-22, 2004 at the historic Loews Hotel, 12th and Market Sts. This
year's theme is: Celebrating Diversity Through Language, Culture and the
Arts. The conference will be co-hosted by Pennsylvania Association for
Bilingual Education (PABE), the state affiliate of the National Association
for Bilingual Education and Asian American Educators (AAE).
Highlights of this year's conference include: A keynote presentation by
Dr. Alma Flor Ada, prolific author of children's books, and presentations by
Judy Chang Wenderoth, a Philadelphia architect turned photographer/artist
who spent last July in east Central Mongolia sketching and photographing the
restoration of the Baldan Baraivan
Buddhist Monastery. Dr. Rebecca Freeman Field, author of: Building on
Community Bilingualism will also present highlights of her work on the
development of dual language programs. The conference will also include
numerous presentations on issues of second language acquisition and program
implementation by local administrators and teachers of ESOL and bilingual
programs, and performances by students from the Philadelphia schools. The
conference is expected to attract around 500 participants from around the
United States.
