Career Instructors of Spanish Language and Culture
The Department of Romance Languages seeks to hire two full-time Career
Instructors of Spanish to teach undergraduate language and culture classes
at the first-, second, and third year levels, beginning September 15, 2011.
A full course load for a career instructor is three classes per quarter
(nine per year).
These positions are not tenure track; the initial one-year contract is
renewable contingent on excellent performance, budgetary approval, and
staffing needs. (For a complete description of the position of Career

res-and-practices-nttf-appointments.) Salary starts at $32,000,
commensurate with training and experience.
Minimum requirements: M.A. in Spanish or related field, professional-level
language proficiency (ACTFL Superior or equivalent) in Spanish and ability
to use English effectively in an academic context, as well as evidence of
successful college-level teaching experience.
Preference will be given to candidates with (1) expertise in Spanish
heritage language pedagogy, (2) academic and/or practical experience in
issues of bilingualism and biculturalism in the USA and Latin America (e.g.,
graduate-level coursework, social or educational work with Hispanic
populations, participation in research related to Hispanics in the USA),
and/or (3) experience in service learning. We seek candidates with
knowledge of proficiency-based language instruction. Our multi-sectioned
programs require creative teachers who work well in a collaborative
environment.
The successful candidate will have the ability to work with faculty, staff,
and students from diverse backgrounds. The University of Oregon is an
