A fine idea, examining the position of English histling in the late C20.
But would you not consider expanding it? All of us who function as
historical linguists, whether within English or not, must have been struck
by the general decline in interest and role of historical linguistics in
general. That would also be well worth while as a topic of duscussion:
why, and what can we do?
