    The Fifth Diachronic Generative Syntax Conference (DIGS 5)
 
                        University of York
                       30 May - 1 June 1998
 
        Deadline for receipt of abstracts: 16 January 1998
 
We are pleased to announce that the Fifth Diachronic Generative Syntax
Conference will be held at the University of York (UK), 30 May - 1 June
1998. York is a historic town of interest with excellent facilities and
communications.

We are planning a half-day workshop on syntactic change and
learnability. Plans are also in progress to publish an edited volume of
papers from the conference.
 
Abstracts are invited for 30-minute talks (with an additional 10 minutes
for discussion) on any aspect of diachronic syntax within a generative
framework. Abstracts should be no more than one page (A4 or letter
size) in length, with one-inch margins; an additional page may be used
for references if necessary. Submissions are limited to a maximum of one
individual and one joint abstract per author. If you want your abstract
to be considered for the learnability workshop, request it on the 3" x
5" card accompanying the abstract (see below). This request will not
preclude the abstract from being considered for the general conference
sessions.
 
Abstracts should be submitted in the following format. Please note that
the abstract must be received by the deadline, 16 January 1998, in order
to be considered. Faxed abstracts will not be accepted.
 
(1) Five hard copies of an anonymous abstract, plus one additional
camera-ready hard copy with the author's name and affiliation. The
latter will be reproduced in the Meeting Handbook if the paper is
accepted for presentation.
 
(2) A 3" x 5" card with title of paper, name of author(s),
affiliation(s), and the primary author's postal address, e-mail address,
telephone number, and fax number. Indicate on the card if you want the
abstract to be considered for the learnability workshop.
 
If you wish to be added to the DIGS 5 mailing list, send a message
containing your name, affiliation, postal address, e-mail address,
telephone number, and fax number to digs at york.ac.uk.
