I am working on the implications of word-internal hiatus for the
development of Germanic languages and would appreciate any references to
earlier work using materials from any language or language family, on

        a. the development of hiatus when consonants are lost;
        b. elimination of hiatus (consonant or glide insertion; contraction);
        c. factors encouraging maintenance of hiatus;
        d. constraints on hiatus (e.g. first vowel must be long, or tense, etc.).
