Position in Multimedia-oriented Language Engineering

The Department of Linguistics, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, is looking for a

Computational Linguist/Language Engineer/Computer Scientist

interested in research and development of innovative multimedia-oriented language technology.

Candidates should have a background in natural language processing as well as strong programming
(Perl, Perl/Tk and Java preferred) skills. We expect previous experience of research in several areas
of computational linguistics. Special interest or previous experience in corpus-based methods or
speech recognition is highly welcome. In addition, experience building graphical user interfaces
would be an advantage.

The computing environment is based on a UNIX/Solaris server and Solaris/WinNT clients.
Candidates must have a relevant PhD or MA/MSc/Dipl.-Inform/Dipl.-Ing.

Appointment will be for a minimum of 4 years with the possibility of contract renewal for another
year. Payment will be on the German BAT IIa scale (Minimum of 70.000 DM per year, depending
on age and marital status).
