Cognitive Science of Language

  The Department of Linguistics and Languages at McMaster University  
invites applications for a tenure-track appointment, effective July  
1, 2008, at the rank of Associate Professor, or Professor.   
Preference will be given to applicants qualified to teach in the  
field of the cognitive science of language broadly defined.   The  
current minimum salary at the rank of Associate Professor is $71,118.00.

  The Department has launched a successful undergraduate program in  
Linguistic Cognitive Science, drawing on existing strengths in second  
language acquisition and bilingualism, cognitive linguistics,  
clinical sociolinguistics, phonology, computational text analysis and  
psycholinguistics.  We expect that this appointment will help anchor  
and develop the newly proposed MSc/PhD in the Cognitive Science of  
Language, an interdisciplinary program which draws faculty from the  
Faculties of Humanities, Science, Health Science and Engineering, and  
will help build relationships with the community of clinicians, both  
in medicine and speech and language pathology.
  Qualifications should include a PhD. in Linguistics, Cognitive  
Science or closely related field, demonstrated ability to teach at  
both the undergraduate and graduate level, and an established record  
of scholarly research. The successful candidate will normally teach  
five one-term courses in an academic year and participate in the  
research and administrative activities of the department.  
Administrative expertise an asset.
