Hi everybody,

My text book on Grammatical Theory is now finished and available for
download (more than 800 pages). There are also print on demand versions,
both softcover and hardcover.

If you want to support Language Science Press, you may buy a printed
version of the book or make your libraries buy them. Of course you would
help us even more if you convinced your institute or your university to
become an institutional member of Language Science Press.

Here are some infos about the content: There are chapters about GB,
Minimalism, GPSG, LFG, HPSG, CG, CxG, DG, and TAG. All approaches are
discussed in relation to all others. What is new in comparison to the
German version of the book is the two chapters about Minimalism and
Dependency Grammar. The DG chapter contains a lengthy discussion about
translatability of the two formats into each other and I show that the
frequently made claim that DGs are simpler is not true.

In addition there is a discussion of Fluid Construction Grammar and Remi
van Trijp's claims as far as distinctiveness of goals and approaches of
HPSG/SBCG and FCG are concerned.

The second part of the book is a more general discussion part. It deals
with UG, universals, poverty of the stimulus, language acquistion,
phrasal/lexical distinctions, empty elements, performance/competence,
recursion.

Finally, I want to thank everybody on these lists who helped improve
this book. In fact, this is a lot of people: all those who I discussed
theoretical linguistics with over the paast 20+ years, all those who
commented on several versions of the book, all those who participated in
the open review process and those who helped with proofreading.

Of course a big thank you goes to Berthold Crysmann and Timm Lichte for
putting together the LaTeX classes for Language Science Press and for
Sebastian Nordhoff and the other Language Science Press staff for
setting up and maintaining everything.

Thank you!

Greetings from Berlin

        Stefan

PS: If you are unhappy with the book for whatever reasons, please let me
know, there will be further editions. (Just yesterday found out about
the PejorationP, which of course will be added to the next version).

=:-)
