[HPSG-L] Job Opening: Research Position in NLP (Full-time)

The Institute for Digital Humanities at the Georg-August-University Göttingen invites applications for one research position (male/female/diverse) — PhD or postdoc — in Natural Language Processing, Computational Linguistics or Computational Literary Studies.
Renumeration is according to the German TV-L E13 pay scale. The position is full time (currently 39,80 hours per week) but part-time is in principle also possible. The position is open with immediate effect, and the contract will initially be for 2 years. This position was created with the aim of helping to kickstart new DH initiatives at the institute. Subject to obtaining funding, an extension of the position in the context of a research project is intended.
The successful candidate will work in interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of NLP, Linguistics and Literary Studies. The Institute for Digital Humanities was founded in 2018 with the aim of carrying out original interdisciplinary research in the areas "text and language" and "image and object" and at their intersection. The institute brings together researchers from Computer Science and the Humanities who collaborate closely on a variety of innovative interdisciplinary projects. Göttingen University is a research-oriented university in the centre of Germany and offers an international and highly interdisciplinary working environment with motivated colleagues and many possibilities for collaboration.
Tasks:
- development, implementation, evaluation and dissemination of novel algorithms for analyzing natural language, esp. factual and fictional texts
- compilation and evaluation of large text corpora
- teaching (currently 4 hours per week during term time)
- interdisciplinary collaboration, esp. also with colleagues from the Humanities and Social Sciences
- organization of events, such as talks and workshops
Required Profile:
- MSc/MA or Phd in Computational Linguistics, (Applied) Computer Science, Digital Humanities, Data Science or a comparable qualification
- familiarity with algorithms for analyzing natural language, esp. text data
- comprehensive knowledge of NLP algorithms and experience with statistical models and machine learning methods
- programming experience and excellent knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g., Java or Python)
- very good command of English
- independence, reliability, ability to learn quickly and good communications skills
- strong willingness to work interdisciplinary
Knowledge of German and experience with one or more of the following areas would be an advantage: Deep Learning, Pattern Matching, Information Retrieval, Text Mining, Knowledge Representation, Semantic Technologies.
