This is a kind reminder that the next event in The I-LanD Seminar Series - 4th Edition will take place Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 16:30 to 18:30 (CET).

We invite you to join us for the seminar Teaching English in the Expanding Circle: Awareness of Language Variation, Language Policy, and Ideology, which will explore how the global importance of English and its early introduction in schools across Europe relate to issues of language variation, ideology, and policy. The session will examine how English teachers may perpetuate or challenge the Standard Language Ideology (SLI), and how greater awareness of linguistic diversity can enrich English Language Teaching (ELT). Drawing on research in English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) and sociolinguistics, the discussion will address the implications of standard language myths, linguistic correctness, and variation across phonological, grammatical, and lexical levels.
