A conference that may  be of interest to people on this list.  The
Second International Conference
on Educational Technology in Cultural Context. August 26-30 2003 in
Joensuu, Finland.

The conference is concerned with 'the application of educational
technology in various cultural contexts.'  The idea is of interest to me
bacause it is not about the technology as much as about the impact and
use of the technology in a pedagogical setting with specific concern to
cultural adaptation and integration. In other words, how do we put our
unique aspects of our culture online without loosing our identity.
