Province tries to protect vanishing languages

VANCOUVER - The provincial government has set up a two-million dollar fund
to support first nations language initiatives in early childhood
development programs.

Children and Family Development Minister Tom Christensen announced the
funding this morning in Victoria.

He's hoping the money will ensure indigenous languages are not lost for
generations to come.

More than 60 per cent of canada's aboriginal languages are found in B-C and
many are in danger of becoming extinct.
