Indigenous languages and instant messaging

Using IM should be relatively straight forward. Many of the IM clients
i've used support Unicode. The key issues (assuming you have a Unicode
based IM client) are:

1) the client allows you to select arbitrary fonts, so you can use an
appropriate font for the language in question
2) the IM client uses and appropriate font rendering technology to display text

We've successfully used a rage of languages using various protocols
including IRC, Windows Live messenger, jabber servers, and YIM, using
a range of clients.
