Students learning Adelaide's first language

EXPERTS estimate that one language dies every fortnight around the world but
efforts by local linguists are keeping an indigenous dialect in Adelaide alive.

While there are predictions that about 3000 languages – half those spoken
globally – will be lost this century, the Kaurna language spoken by the
Aboriginal people of the Adelaide Plains is being passed on in our schools.

Nine Aboriginal languages, including Kaurna, are being taught to about 4000
students across the state – about half of whom are non-indigenous.
