UNESCO’s alert on the world’s languages

If attitude among any collective ever warrants depiction as ‘conspiracy of
silence’, then we have a clear instantiation in how humanity at large has
handled recent findings and an alert by the United Nations Educational
Scientific and Cultural Organisation. A report of the UN agency, released on
May 12, read in part: “There are at present 6,500 languages in the world and by
the end of the century, only 600 of them will survive through technological
documentation.”
