B.C. miners dig deep to save endangered indigenous languages

VANCOUVER - British Columbia’s mining community is literally putting
its money where its mouth is — at least the mouths of many of its
first nations’ employees — by making the first donation to a project
aimed at preserving and restoring this province’s endangered
indigenous languages.

The Mining Association of B.C. says it is contributing $125,000 to the
First Nations Cultural Foundation to help with the documentation and
renewal of languages that are rapidly disappearing. And those
languages are being lost in many of the remote communities where the
industry is most active.
