Unesco works to preserve state’s languages

[inset: Not many of the Bidayuh and Kelabit speak their languages nowadays.
This is due mainly to interracial marriages. They either use Bahasa
Malaysia or English at home now. Datuk Fatimah Abdullah, Minister of
Welfare, Women and Family Development]

SIBU: The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation
(Unesco) is currently working on two projects in the state to prevent the
Kelabit and Bidayuh languages from disappearing.

The projects under the Endangered Languages programme aim to assist and
protect dying native languages.
