I use TeX, but I think that this way of encoding diacritics might not be
painless for those who don't. That's why I dare suggest to use a simpler
encoding as follows:
a' e' i' o' u'
a` e` i` o` u`
a^ e^ i^ o^ u^
a" e" i" o" u"
a~ e~ i~ o~ u~
n' n^ n~
s' s^
etc.

The problem with a simplified method is that it makes multiple diacritics
difficult. Bear with me; I will post a set of suggestions shortly.
