It now seems that the wheeled vehicle was invented ca. 3500 BC (calibrated
C14 dates), and spread very quickly through most of western Eurasia. See
Jan Bakker, Janusz Kruk, et al., "The Earliest Evidence of Wheeled Vehicles
in Europe and the Near East," pp. 778-790 in <Antiquity> 73 (1999). The
evidence extends from Uruk to Jutland.
